'Robert Young' is a very popular bamboo with quite a striking appearance. Culms and branches soon turn from sulfur green to old gold. Longitudinal green stripes of variable width mark many internodes. Uses include shoots for eating, ornamental plantings, screening and crafts. PI 77257 was introduced by way of Gaston Negre of Generarques, France. This bamboo was named for Robert A. Young who was a horticulturist with the USDA plant introduction station and published many articles about bamboo.
