The culms of Phyllostachys bambusoides "White Crookstem" bamboo have a slight reciprocal curve in the lower part; nodes are not pronounced. The culms are covered with a white powder that persists and in the older culms can obscure the green color. First introduced to the U.S. in 1926 from Guangdong, China.
