Has the same habit and growth pattern as P. aurea "Golden" bamboo. It is easily identified by one of several short internodes at the base of some of its culms which resemble the hand grip of a walking cane. It is a very aggressive spreader in areas with warm summers. The culms turn from green to yellow after the first 6 months, but the culm grooves remain green, similar in color to P. bambusoides 'Castillon.' Some leaves can develop narrow cream or greenish yellow stripes.
This clone developed as a spontaneous form in La Jolla, CA from a grove of P. aurea in the late 1970s or early 1980s.
