Phyllostachys aurea 'Kansai' holochrysa bamboo is easily identified by one of several short internodes at the base of some of its culms which resemble the hand grip of a walking cane. It has the same habit and growth as P. aurea except for the culm color. It is a very aggressive spreader in areas with warm summers. This bamboo makes a nice ornamental planting. Culms are used for interior decoration, fishing rods, walking sticks, umbrella handles, and many other crafts projects.
Phyllostachys aurea holochrysa varies from the typical form whose culms stay green until old; these culms turn yellow or orange-yellow very young and then to a golden orange. The culm color is not affected by exposure to sun. The internodes will sometimes have a few green stripes. Some leaves will have a narrow white stripe. First introduced to the U.S. in 1984.
Very rare.
